Artist/Song Title: Die Fantastischen Vier – Buenos Dias Messias
Subject: Deadwood, Al & Bullock PoVs
Summary: ‚Dieses Haus ist besetzt ohne Pause bis jetzt, denn wir kamen zuerst und wir gehen auch zuletzt.’ Deadwood – It’s all about Al and Bullock. It's their town and they take care of it in their individual ways, but with the same goal - Hearst has to fucking go.
Format: stream and download at stage6 28 MB, permanent download link 720x400 – 28 MB AVI or watch on imeem

Reasons to vid ‘Buenos Dias’? Well, it has a religious reference in the title – Sorry, but I had to get that out of my system. This one was again completely unintentional. So after I finished my Deadwood marathon with Sandra a few months ago I wanted to vid this show and this particular song came first to mind. I said jokily that I should do this vid and her cheering along with the crazy idea was all the encouragement I needed to do this Christmas vid for her. Foremost the sound is fucking right – Deutscher Sprechgesang mets Western atmosphere and the lyrics - after cutting out the first verse - are pitch perfect for Al and Bullock and their coexistence and how their relationship evolved in the dawning of Hearst’s arrival.

Lyrical interpretation: I haven’t done a German song since my very first vidding days and so it was actually refreshing and cool experience to do this in my native language. Plus I’m a big Fanta 4 fan, I was growing up with their music and I just love their style. Every album of theirs is mind-blowing and I adore they way they have fun with words and music and aren’t afraid to try out something completely different like this song.

So the lyrics come down to the house rules - Al’s control over Deadwood and how the new kid in town won’t fuck up his best laid plans. Then it changes as relationships between two men grudgingly respecting each other do and Bullock has some rules of his own and a short temper to enforce them. Because it isn’t about choosing the lesser evil in Al – Hearst pisses him off and so he has his own personal reasons to hate his guts. So there is one statement I had to think around and that was the killing part of the implied grand Western duel – because as happy I would have been if Hearst would have seen his end, the show ended on a different note and so it became about their ways to get rid of the fucker – for good.

The Journey? Was a pleasure with [livejournal.com profile] xandra_ptv at my side to whine about my lack of focus on the plot and more on their deep and meaningful glances over shared whiskey shots. I restrained myself with her help from the slash and yeah, then it was only a matter of days. Fast vidding is ridiculous satisfying.

Technical notes worth mentioning? None.

Final note: Well, that’s for my best friend with much love.
Mood:: 'giddy' giddy

I've been getting way behind with my vid watching and commenting lately but I just couldn't let this pass by without at least saying how great it is to see a Deadwood vid from you. Obviously, I've not got a clue about the lyrics other than the swearing (which is very Deadwood) but I do get a sense of Al and Bullock forming this slightly uneasy partnership, they seem more like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday than I remember from the show so I guess that's down to your mad editing skills (or my faulty memory.)

ps
You need to change the permanent link because it's linked up wrong.

Fixed the link earlier before heading out for Christmas shopping – I missed a blank in there, so thanks, my love!

And yes, you summed the lyrics flawlessly up or at least my intention with that uneasy partnership with a matching goal between the pimp and the on/off sheriff. Xandra steered me faithfully away from hazy glances, hot breathing and Bullock feeling right at home in Al’s bed and now we watch the series together. Yay for me persuading her. It’s the show I want to vid almost every main character – I think Alma(/Ellsworth) is next. I just found the perfect song for the two of them, of course again in English.

About the Al/Bullock chemistry, it’s actually kind of funny, because I also thought that smiles between them were a very rare thing. But mostly one or both of them crack up in every intense scene for at least a moment or share an annoyed look about the idiocy of others. That they start to respect each other in a fucked up way from early on helps in that regard.

Oh, Sandra is here, I have to go… But I’m happy you enjoyed the vid and felt like the story came through!

I had no solid take on the plot or the lyrics (what with not having seen Deadwood and my German being reallllly rusty) until reading your notes, but watching it was still a blast. It's a badass vid. :D Your song choice played up the rough/take-no-shit vibes coming off those two perfectly.

Then I’ve done my duty! *bows*

I’m very happy that you had a blast with this one as I had making it and that you even felt like the song choice was right. I guess, I can only rely on my own experience with vids in other languages and either they accomplish telling a story or fail, so I'm glad that you felt satisfied with the vid, dualbunny.

Oh you surely MUST - Deadwood just gets better and better, which makes the end even more poignant and bitter, but till then it is a great emotional ride. I'm also happy you enjoyed the vid and felt like the the mood came through. So thank you for the comment!
