The remaster was pretty straight forward clip replacing with DVD source, getting rid off unnecessary transitions and filling the holes with additional clips. In less than 48 hours and hey, it looks like I really get some remasters done this year. Yay for resolutions.

Okay, I cheated. I included one more - the next - ep in the new version - 1x16 Shadow. Vidder notes can be found in the original entry.

Chills, dude, chills. Seriously. Everything you replaced only added to the vid, even though I clearly thought, from my extensive review, that nothing could make it better.

I swear, the clips from Shadows added so much emotional weight (especially the hug on 'I'm slowly getting taller here in wonderland', and the glow on Jessica (and other clips as well) from Bloody Mary brought me to tears.

I’m so thrilled that you approve. Seriously. I knew you had such a crush on the original even when you mentioned one time that you would be interested in a remastered version.

For me this is the first time I remastered a vid and I felt like I could hear the thin ice gnash beneath my feet every time I changed something from the original. Luckily I soldiered on like a mad woman without any regard to my safety, my sanity was waiting on the other side and my only goal was to keep the original glossy tone of the vid.

I’m not sure why exactly I suddenly had space left on the timeline to add further context or drive some points home. Maybe the simplest explanation is the best - this vid came after a nine month vidding hiatus and I was rusty. Maybe it was a bit insecurity if I could do timed straight cuts, whatever it was I think that this version is more coherent about the story I wanted to tell about Sam painfully growing up in the first half of season one. There is a huge amount of lost innocence like Dean mentioned later in ‘Something wicked’ going on right there.

I also felt that I necessarily had to use the reunion with John – finding Dad was one of the biggest motifs, but that didn’t mean finding home, a safe harbour or even closure. His parents are this weird wonderland for Sam, where he can get love even when it means there is just more hidden pain in store for him. On the other hand with Dean right by his side Sam had a comfort zone and he relearned to fall easily into it again over the course of these 16 eps after four years of separation. It didn’t make his life less complicated or remotely guilt free, but it is reassurance that they are doing the right thing and he starts slowly to accept what Dean has to offer. Even when the decisions they face get murkier and the morals aren’t black and white any longer.

Okay, enough rambling, Milly, I truly happy you aren’t disappointed and I could rekindle your love for this vid.

i think i'm rubbing off on you. that was quick.

I had the timeline replaced with changes in one sitting. Then some more tweaking and fine turning in the second, plus trying out different filters and playing with avisynth in between and voilà, vid finished. I can tell you one thing this being on a roll can be actually very scary for me. I felt like I should postpone posting just because there was no way, I was able to do that remaster thingy in two sessions. Even when I pretty much had the timeline all thought out beforehand.

I sometimes miss the times when I didn't accomplish anything while on IM with you, just serving your needs. But the universe gains from our lack of sex, we didn’t evoke an Apocalypse and there are more vids floating around.

i know, the marriage has really gotten in the way of our fucking but there are only so many times i can slice you open without it seeming repetative. and you know every time we make vids together its like fucking, we get the same emotional rush and it lasts longer....

and i am just as surprised as you are that the world hasn't ended... but really you think this is a marriage... how about a "like-marriage" thing... because you don't want me to consider having another demon spawn.

The original of this vid has been one of my favs for a long time, I was really excited to see a remake of it. Looks fantastic, I just love the song and I think the vid does a great job portraying that journey Sam started on in Season 1. Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks so much for the rec there and over at your journal – Using 1x16 sure felt like coming full circle in regards of parents. John adds a nice symmetry to Mary and how they both affect Sam. Neither became a real home, one a ghost and one haunted by the memories of the other constantly on the run. I’m glad you liked the changes and thanks again for giving me the heads-up on the rec.

Guh! I just love S1 Samcentric vids and this one was so well done. For some reason that scene with Missouri just gave me chills.

Loved it!

I feel exactly the same way about that scene, you can practically see Sam being open and a happy puppy, then shutting down in a matter of seconds. He is signalizing off in neon letters that Missouri has no right to even touch the topic or Jess’ memories.

So glad you loved it and enjoyed the vid.

Really perfect song for Sam! Loved the clips you used and just about everything about it, I really love Something Corporate, so this was perfect.

Wow, you're like a one woman vidding factory at the moment aren't you. The remaster is so pretty and shiny. Adding the extra ep really rounds out the family dynamic. You know I loved the original but this is just that little bit better!

I don't know what I did to deserve your on the wall dedication but thanks anyway. :D

So I guess there'll be more remasters coming this year?

I feel like I should ride the wave before I’m drowning beneath it. Also I don’t want to jinx anything but vidding is so much fun for me at the moment, I can’t even stop grinning madly long enough to curse. I don’t even know how to curse at Premiere at the moment. Okay with the one exception of making the dedication into seamless wall graffiti, but there was camera movement the motion function in my Premiere definitely not fine enough to get rid of the shaking. See for things like this I need to learn AfterEffects soonish and expand my horizon, but to keep up with the surf analogy I couldn’t risk losing monumento for this small detail.

You should be so disappointed in me. Of course you would have deserved the perfected wall dedication, it was your birthday vid, there is no way I could forget the most important thing in the whole video.

And yes, there will be more remasters. I think Decree is up next, but there I want to change a whole lot and add some hopefully interesting effects that should slow me down significantly. Even when they will appear so simple compared to yours.

wow, wow, wow. I don't know how I managed to miss this the first time around but I am SO GLAD I went on a vid binge and found it. This is THE Sam vid for me, now, it's just so--sharp and soft in exactly the ways he is himself. Compelling and gorgeous, I love it. And the song choice is PERFECT.

Happy you love it and the remaster was so much fun to make. And yes, I feel like this is the perfect Sam song for season 1. It just balances out the despair and hope while everything else shifts around him and he needs to adjust to the change. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment.
